Feature Friday with Gelliou Themes & Schemes : Retail Shared Premises

Gelliou Themes SchemesWelcome to Feature Friday from Bluestone Insurance Services, where each week we speak to an independent local company about the business issues they face.

In January we will focus on the retail sector.  This week Danny met with Faye and Anna from Gelliou Themes & Schemes.

Gelliou Themes and Schemes are a brand new shop selling quality, affordable home accessories and gift-ware – located in the Corn Hall corridor in Cirencester’s Market Place – offering items from a wide range of suppliers.

Following their success from trading separately within the Corn Hall, Faye and Anna decided to pool their resources and open a shop together.

Shared premises are becoming more common in retail as Faye and Anna can also share their costs.  However, from an insurance point of view this may not be as simple as it seems. With separate businesses trading in one space, responsibilities of liability and stock may not be clear cut. For instance, if a space within the shop shared by Faye and Anna had an item of stock fall onto a customer, who would be responsible for this?

After trying to speak to insurers directly, they approached us and we were able to explain insurance solutions to their situation meaning both Faye and Anna can concentrate on their businesses.
