January Focus on Retail with Pick a Pot & Paint – Product Liability

During January we have focused on the retail sector, visiting various local businesses and discussing with them the issues which concern them day to day.

Earlier this week Danny met with Georgia from Pick a Pot & Paint, a ‘pick your own pottery’ studio hidden away within the Stable Yard along Black Jack Street in Cirencester.

Georgia has worked at Pick a Pot for the last 12 years and took the decision to take over the business 6 years later where she has grown her loyal customer base by hosting all sorts of occasions. From Hen do’s to Baby hand and footprint parties, Pick a Pot supply blank pottery for you to buy and paint in your own design. Once you are happy with your pottery design, Georgia will then gloss it and sealed within their kiln ready for you to take away.

Each piece of pottery is checked before it is given to the customer to take away. However should a sold item injure someone when it has been taken home due to a defect then the business owner could be liable for a claim against them. A retailer’s insurance policy should contain Product Liability cover. This is a type of insurance that can cover the cost of compensation claims if someone is injured or their property is damaged by a product that you’ve sold. In certain situations, you may be liable even if you haven’t manufactured the product yourself.
